Loan Officer Spotlight: Troy Farrell
At First Ohio Home Finance, we know that choosing a lender is an important, personal decision. Our team of loan officers are skilled in providing personalized mortgage solutions while providing 5-star service to our customers. We want to give you the opportunity to get to know our amazing team! First up is Troy Farrell. Troy has been a loan officer with First Ohio Home Finance since 2016. Here’s a little snapshot from our interview with Troy for this week’s Loan Officer Spotlight.
Q: What inspired you to become a mortgage loan officer?
A: I’ve known the founders at First Ohio Home Finance for a long time. I had been spinning my wheels in my previous career. When the company founders tell you enough times that they think you could be successful doing this job – and knowing how successful they’ve been in doing it – eventually you have to listen, right? I’m glad I finally did.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a loan officer?
A: I love hearing from my clients and the realtors I work with that they were happy with the loan process, the service we provided as a company and the communication and updates I provided along the way. If they’re happy, I’m happy!
Q: What interests you about the mortgage business/industry?
A: There are continual changes in the underwriting guidelines that we have to stay abreast of, and no two loans are alike. It keeps us on our toes!
Q: How do you ensure excellent customer service for your clients?
A: I make myself available to my clients 24/7, and besides regular updates, I tell them that no question is too small or unimportant. I want them to have a thorough understanding of the loan process from start to finish.
Q: Tell about a success story when working with a past client
A: The successes are due as much to the clients themselves as they are to us. I recently worked with a client over several months and helped her buy her first home. She diligently paid off thousands in debt and raised her score such that we were able to get her into a Conventional loan without using down payment assistance. She called me in tears of joy when she signed her purchase contract, thanking me for being patient and working with her. I helped guide her along the way but she did the work!
Q: What is your advice to first-time homebuyers?
A: Pay ALL debts on time and keep revolving (credit card) debt to 30% or less of the credit limit to build a solid credit history and score.
Q: How would people describe you?
A: I would hope people think of me as kind, considerate and earnest. If people consider me a friend I feel it’s a great compliment.
Q: What’s your favorite quote?
A: “Hate is an acid that corrodes its container” A variation on a quote from Mark Twain.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working?
A: If we’re not at one of our kids’ sports events and I’m not engaged in something below, we’re hanging out with good friends, trying new restaurants and maybe watching a good movie (with kids it’s mostly Marvel movies these days).
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I like to bike, run and generally battle Father Time with exercise as much as possible. I’m a total sports junkie, so I will attend just about any sporting event under the sun (or indoors!).
