Pool Safety Tips for Homeowners
A pool or spa can be a great way to add value and enjoyment to your home. With summer on the way, let’s take a moment to go over some simple measures you can take to ensure your friends and family enjoy the pool in a fun and safe manner.
Keep the Kids Safe
Never leave a child unattended near an open pool for any amount of time. Be sure to enroll your children in swim lessons and teach them basic water safety tips. Remind kids to keep clear of all drains present in a pool or spa. If a child is still a little shaky on their swimming abilities, equip them with a suitable floatation device before letting them into the pool or spa.
Cover Up
Keep the proper lockable covers in place for all pools and spas on your property while not in use. Likewise, be sure that all drains in your spa or pool are protected by the recommended drain covers.
Fence it In
A proper security fence around your yard or pool area can help eliminate the risk of any unwanted visitors (human or animal) having an accident in your spa or pool. A good security system with an alarm will take your safety to the next level.
Know CPR
In the event of an emergency, knowing how to perform CPR can be a literal life saver. Check with your local health department to learn how to obtain CPR certification for use on both children and adults.
Don’t Forget the SPF
Fun in the sun is the stuff summer memories are made of—just don’t forget to take care of your skin. Avoid the risk of developing skin cancer by regularly applying a waterproof SPF sunscreen. Remember to reapply as needed and stick to the shade when possible.
